The term Doula means in Greek, “female servant or slave”. To me, this term means a companion alongside a transformative journey. Becoming a parent can be exciting, terrifying, joyous, or painful. There is no limit to the amount of emotion you may feel while pregnant, and childbirth brings many of these feelings to the surface.
When you enter your labor room, you are entering a sacred space. You leave this room with a child, who will forever change the fiber of the universe. Labor creates a parent, and in this journey, it is important to have support.
I believe that a Doula is a necessary part of the childbirth process. She provides education, comfort, unconditional support, and a wealth of birth knowledge. My training as a Doula and my own experience as a mother has given me the tools necessary to give exemplary support to laboring persons.
